Today's cheesecake record album cover of the day is a Japanese album with a very Caucasian model on the front. The album is titled "Golden Tenor Sax" and was put out on the Union label. The rest of the print on the cover seems to be in Japanese. The album has a gatefold cover that opens up to reveal a full body photo (the cover is the top portion) of the model.

The record was from a live recording at Club Largo in Hollywood. The woman on the cover is not showing all of Betty Ross, as Betty Ross was a large blonde woman.

Two Rarities on eBay Twice in Two Weeks

If you look in the records category on eBay, you're sure to find a bunch of records with asking prices in the millions of dollars that, according to the listing, are the rarest records in the world. They may really be that rare, often you'll find an oddball record that you cannot find mention of on all of the internet. Sometimes even major label releases are hard to find any info on, or comparables offered for sale. Even though someone wanting a particular record might have to search for three decades of yard sales, record stores and flea markets, it doesn't necessarily make it valuable.
This past week on eBay two of the highest selling records (at just above $7000.00 each) was Madrigal's Magic Key to Spanish LP with book. The book has some early artwork by Andy Warhol. It's supposed to be super rare, but two were offered just a week apart.

This happens a lot on eBay. Something sells for a big amount and someone sees it that has it and puts theirs up for sale to cash in, but still finding two insanely rare things in a month makes you wonder about their actual rarity.

The next highest selling records were unplayed "prototype" 12" singles by the Police. The records were offered from different sellers and the picture discs were slightly different, but had the same songs.

2/25 Cheesecake Album of the Day - How to Make Your Husband a Sultan

Today's cheesecake album cover of the day is a how-to album about belly dancing - How to Make Your Husband a Sultan, Belly Dance With Ozel Turkbas. I wasn't born in the 1950's, but I've seen these types of records a lot and can't help but wonder if it was the men who bought them, or their wives. Another popular theme seemed to be how to strip for your husband.

2/22 Cheesecake Album Cover of the Day - Sam The Man Taylor: Midnight Serenade

Today's cheesecake album cover of the day is a Japanese release on MGM of Sam Taylor, Midnight Serenade. A nude woman laying on a couch is infinitely more appealing and interesting than a photo of a bunch of middle aged guys playing in a big band.

2/21 Cheesecake Album Cover of the Day - Martin Denny: Primitiva

Today's cheesecake album cover of the day is Primitiva - The Exotic Sounds of Martin Denny. The model is a very pretty voluptuous brunette who is sitting in a fast flowing stream, wearing what appears to be scraps of cloth, reminiscent of something a caveman or native would wear. The title of the album suggests that is what the record purchaser is to think of the woman anyway. However, I like the way she has done her makeup, tweased her eyebrows to perfection, painted her fingernails and has bikini tan lines. Oh so primitive.

2/20 Cheesecake Album Cover of the Day - Lightning Hopkins: Sings the Blues

Today's cheesecake album cover of the day was released on the budget Crown label. The record is Lightning Hopkins Sings the Blues. It's a bit of a rarity to see a blues record with a cheesecake cover, but you can find them here and there. Normally poses and themes of cheesecake covers were more limited to the easy listening records.

Craig Moerer Receives Shipping Container Full of LP Records

Craig Moerer, owner of Recordsbymail.com, attached to picture to the left in his last newsletter. The shipping container is apparently one of two shipments he has purchased, this box contains 148,000 LP's. To put that in perspective, two containers that size contain about 15% of the total number of all the records on eBay from every seller. If you've ever gotten bug-eyed after a few hours of digging through record boxes, imagine digging through 300,000!

2/19 Cheesecake Album of the Day - Cooty Selmer: Sexy Sax

Today's cheesecake album cover of the day is Sexy Sax by Cooty Selmer and his Redlight Orchestra, released on the Falcon label, catalog number 7123. The cover features a cool transparent inflatable chair and a saxophone that a nude redhead looks to be enjoying a little too much. If you're looking for more great cheesecake, check out Retro-Space on Flickr where we found this cover.

2/17 Cheesecake Album of the Day - Latin Piano Japanese Import

Today's Cheesecake Album Cover of the day is another Japanese album. The artist is unknown, as is the name of the album and the label. Most all of the writing on the album appears to be in Japanese. Somewhere on the record is apparently says Latin Piano. Anyway, it could be yours for $60 on eBay.

2/16 Cheesecake Album of the Day - You and the Sun: Golden Sounds

Today's cheesecake album cover of the day is a Japanese album entitled Golden Sounds by You and the Sun, or vice versa. I'm not familiar with the band, whichever the case may be.  The back of the record is equally cheesecake as the front. This record would set you back about a hundred bucks.

2/15 Cheesecake Album of the Day - Angelina: Confidential

Today's cheesecake album cover of the day is Angelina - Confidential. Album released on Joe Davis label, catalog number 112. "Angelina" is have a bit of a wardrobe malfunction on the cover. The album is made up of risque' songs that may or may not have been sung by the woman on the cover identified as Angelina. Some of the songs are classics like: I'm a Virgin but I'm on the Verge, All the Girls Like Big Dick, He Forgot His Rubbers, etc.

2/14 Cheesecake Album of the Day - Robert Maxwell: Ebb Tide

Today's cheesecake album of the day is Robert Maxwell, Ebb Tide, Japanese releases. Ebb tide has been done by a lot of artists over the years from Frank Chacksfield to the Righteous Brothers, the Platters and Ella Fitzgerald....just to name a few. In this Japanese release though, Robert Maxwell gave the customers a reason to buy his that the other artists did not with their pictures of palm trees and waves. This album, released on the Decca label, is very rare and will cost you about $250.

2/11 Cheesecake Album of the Day - James Last:: Classics Up to Date

Today's cheesecake album of the day goes to James Last for the album Classics Up to Date released on the Polydor label. This album is a bit odd for a James Last album in that it does not have Last's big head on the cover. Most of his album covers featured a picture of him, sometimes he was holding a lady or surrounded by women....sort of like Al Hirt's covers. Big unattractive man surrounded by beautiful women. I think they clearly sent the message that their music was so good that beautiful women looked past to obesity and ugliness whenever they heard it.

Shellac is Not Dead - Tom Waits on 78 rpm Record

2011 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Tom Waits, released a 78 rpm record late last year in collaboration with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band from New Orleans. The record was a limited run of 504 discs. They were also offering a matching 78 rpm record player, which were limited to 100. Originally you could buy the player and record for $200, which was a benefit for the Preservation Hall Music Outreach Program. Now scalpers are asking $300 for the record and up to $1500 for the limited edition record and player.

2/9 Cheesecake Album of the Day - Stef Meeder: Games That Lovers Play

Today's cheesecake album of the day is Games That Lovers Play by Step Meeder on the Hammond organ. This 1970's album cover is not the typical cheesecake cover, but I found it interesting anyway - for one reason... Check out the man and woman's swimsuits. Then man's is the same size as the woman's. They both have legs that go all the way up....whatever, just found it amusing.

2/8 Cheesecake Album of the Day - Edmundo Ros: Latin Love-In

Late 1960's Edmundo Ros Latin Love-In LP on the Pickwick label with a nice cheesecake album cover that features a young woman having fun with body paint. Before you ask yourself why she is painting herself, notice that she painted the name of the album across her chest. There's one on eBay right now with a very low starting bid.

2/7 Cheesecake Album of the Day - Vivo Orchestra: Guitar Latin Mood

Today's cheesecake album cover of the day is a Latin style easy listening by the Vivo Orchestra released in Japan with soloist Shoji Yokouchi on the Columbia label. I've never heard of them either, but that probably didn't hurt the sales. A Japanese seller is currently offering the record on eBay for $200.

You Gotta Look at All the Pictures on eBay

When you are shopping on eBay, it's helpful to look at all the pictures. The photo above was recently a gallery photo of a little lot of 45's on eBay with the title "Big Lot Misc. Vintage Records 45s."  The description wasn't much more help in determining the contents of the collection. If fact, I only noticed it because the lot sold for $217. That seems pretty good for a $15 record tote full of 45s, until you look at all the pictures. Included with the lot was a Fe-Fi-Four Plus 2 on Lance. Condition, not noted, but in near mint that's a $500-1000 record. Which brings me to tip #2 for the day....if you're going to sell lots on eBay, invest in a price guide. For specific sizes/speeds of records, there are numerous Goldmine record price guides and if you're looking for a big all-in-one type guide, go with the Rockin' Records price guide. If you find one valuable record that you'd have otherwise put in a lot and sold for nothing, you'll have made your money back.

2/6 Cheesecake Album of the Day - Mohammed El-Bakkar: Port Said

Today's cheesecake album of the day is Mohammed El-Bakkar and His Oriental Ensemble, Port Said - Music of the Middle East on the Audio Fidelity label, catalog number 1833. It's a classic belly dancer cover. I'm not that familiar with Arab culture, but for some reason belly dancers don't seem to have to wear burkas. Most belly dancing records have cheesecake covers, if you're looking to add some Middle Eastern flavor to your collection Amazon has an assortment of belly dancing LP's.

2/5 Cheesecake Album of the Day - Hot Pepper

Today's Cheesecake Album of the Day is Hot Pepper by various artists. The record was released on the Beacon label, catalog number LP-301, sometime in the 1960's. Adult/party song records with song titles like, I'm a Virgin, but I'm on the Verge / You Ought to See Her Box / My Pussy Belongs to Daddy....you get the idea.

2/4 Cheesecake Album of the Day - Piano Pete: Honky Tonk Piano

What is it about honky tonky piano players that makes women adore them so? I mean this lady had to have a hard time getting up there in the first place, just to watch ol' "Piano Pete" play. This record was released in 1955 on the Modern label. It's an affordable cheesecake album cover, around the $10 level, give or take.  The "honky tonk piano" is a popular cheesecake album theme, man playing piano with what appears to be one of the ladies from the brothel taking a break to listen to some tunes up close. Here's a few more:

2/3 Cheesecake Album of the Day - Toru Arima & His Noche Cubana: Rumba of Memories

Today's cheesecake album cover of the day is Toru Arima's, Rumba Memories - Japanese version. This was a deal recently on eBay for only $41. Cover has a flap that folds out to reveal the model's feet. Toru Arima had more than a couple albums with some pretty nice cheesecake covers. Most seem to be in the $30-$60 price range and many are just full blown nudes. Here are a couple more examples of Arima albums.

2/2 Cheesecake Album of the Day - Arthur Lewis: Golden Trumpet

1970's Jazz LP record on the Union label - Arthur Lewis: Golden Trumpet. Who the hell is Arthur Lewis? I don't know, and probably neither did any of the limited number of buyers who purchased this record. He probably played trumpet.
